Exercise bike reviews to be helpful must show more than just a list of features or benefits for that matter. That's so since many bikes even in different price ranges are full of about the same features. Getting fit and losing weight using an exercise bike is more than just a list of features and specifications. Get too little machine and the amount you spend may be all for nothing...
If a bike sits around and isn't used, most any model will do. Hard use, the kind that produces results, on the other hand, puts any machine to a test. Pedaling a bike produces forces that quite rapidly tear a bike to pieces if it is less than it needs to be. Lighter, cheap exercise bikes often start to self-destruct almost immediately and offer little value. But that might no be so easy to apprehend from looking at the specs of a bike.
That's so partly because desirable features like magnetic drives are included on bikes at all price levels. Most bikes incorporate magnetic drives and some sort of programmable workout functions within the on-board computer. That makes it appear that even the least expensive of exercise bikes equal those costing much more. That may not be true though and this is why...
It really may be that the difference in basic construction really separates the two seemingly-similar machines... But then what's more, the cheaper exercise bikes may get little use anyway. That's so because the bikes that are not put together very well are less than great fun to use and are oft so aggravating to use that they won't get used much as a result and will just sit there. Maybe there's a reason for all that... You get little warranty claims on bike that are just simply a boring and aggravation and just sit there, maybe. Inadequate quality bikes may actually quietly sit somewhere and turn to clutter and eventually to trash.
The better bikes that encourage hard use and will stand up to it will not be the cheapest bikes but they won't be the most costly necessarily either. The best combination of features and value often is in the bikes in the medium price band. That gets quality design and build as well as powerful electronics for a more interesting ride.
Best selling bikes, counting ones like the Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike, offer value and still show up well in most of the exercise bike reviews anyway. The Schwinn Airdyne and other dual action exercise bikes are sort of a class alone... Getting an exercise bike that works is often a matter of paying just a moderate amount and getting the features that actually carry weight and leaving off some of the more expensive features that add little value.
